Identify Genre is a free music analysis tool at identifygenre.com. It turns a public Spotify artist or track URL into a genre datasheet: classification, similar artists, ads targeting, playlist targets, and listenership markets. There is no account and no login.

Luke Byatt builds and operates Identify Genre as a sole trader based in Australia. The tool is for music marketers, label operators, playlist pitchers, and listeners who need a structured read on where an artist sits, without setting up a Spotify developer account.

Classification uses a cascade. Spotify supplies artist identity. Last.fm supplies community genre tags, similar artists, and listener overlap. MusicBrainz supplies structured music metadata. Every Noise at Once supplies genre-space context. When one source is thin, later layers fill the gaps. Geographic listenership is inferred, because Spotify does not expose per-country artist stats to third parties.

Identify Genre does not edit Spotify, log into your account, analyse playlists, or accept uploaded audio. Reports can be exported as PDF or CSV. The method is documented on the how-it-works page, common questions are on the FAQ, and the privacy policy explains what the tool stores.
